Just one thing
2017, the new year has started. Maybe you've got some new year resolutions and maybe you've already read a blog post or two about someone else's plans for 2017.
How about instead, we try to change just one thing. Anything, but just one. Not more.
I find it useful to remind myself that networks like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Medium and so on are social media networks. Social media. I'd never compare my day to day life to the media I see represented in the news or TV, and yet it seems like the lives I see in social media are somehow something I should relate to.
Social media is somehow not a network for communication but a network to represent ones own brand image. Communication obviously still happens, but I see a tonne of pressure from the web dev industry upon itself to be better, faster, stronger. This message is constantly reinforced by "10 ES6 features every developer should learn" and "5 framework feature you didn't know about" and so on.
There's only a constant barage of smart content from people who are smarter than me and you, but also a non-stop flow of things I should know.
So here's my suggestion:
Do one thing. And you don't even need to do it well. Heck, don't do one thing, and just carry on keeping your head above water.
